Once returning to Chicago, Bill went back to Haas Bakery to work and in 1967 bought his first bakery from Charles Haas. The store was small so he decided to name it “La Petite Pastry Shop”. So we have a German baker in an Irish neighborhood with a bakery that has a French name. And that is where our tradition began.
We eventually moved 3 blocks west on 63rd and in 1971 our doors opened at 2809 W. 63rd Street and in 1977 we opened a second shop at 5610 W. 63rd Street, which is our current location. For 21 years we had 2 locations until Bill fell and broke his hip, and we made the decision to close our store at 2809 W. 63rd Street.
Bill and his wife Kim are concentrating on our Clearing Area store. La Petite Pastry is the closest bakery to Midway Airport and in 2002 we remodeled our store. We continue to have a full line bakery specializing in party cakes and wedding cakes.
Bill has been involved in the local and national bakery associations for over 30 years. He was president of the Chicago Southside Master Bakers, and the president of the C.A.R.B.A. (Chicago Area Retail Bakers Association). Both Bill and Kim are currently on the Board of Directors of C.A.R.B.A.and Bill is C.A.R.B.A.‘s representative on the Board of Directors for R.B.A. (Retail Bakers of America). We are not only working to make excellent bakery products in our store, but are trying to promote new interest in our great industry.
